At Chic Shutters of Surrey, we are proud to offer a 5 year guarantee with all our plantation shutter installations to ensure you have time to enjoy their benefits fully and get great value from your investment. But did you know that with the right care and attention they can last for a lifetime? Even better than that, their maintenance is really quite straightforward if you follow a few simple guidelines.

Plantation Shutters in Kitchen

Firstly, we recommend regular cleaning of your shutters. Unlike other window dressings (such as curtains) there are no expensive dry cleaning bills or specialist (or toxic) cleaning products required - all you need is a damp cloth to wipe them.

To do this, open each louvre and dust each, one at a time, from centre to the edge. For any areas that are hard to reach, you can also use a hand held feather duster. If you have an upholstery attachment on your vacuum cleaner, you can also use that, but please remember to keep the vacuum suction on low to avoid any damage. We recommend you do this regularly, but if you find one time, that time is just too short, simply close all the louvres and wipe the entire shutter in one go.

For stubborn stains, use your damp cloth and gently rub the stain. Do not rub too aggressively as this could damage the finish of your shutters.

Things to Avoid

  • Soap and water, or polishes and other cleaning products as this can cause wooden shutters to warp
  • Using the louvres as a handle to open or shut the shutter doors. Always hold the door frames to avoid damage to your louvres.

What if something does go wrong?

  • Did you know we can supply a range of shutter door handles and knobs? This can provide an easy DIY fix should you need it.
  • And we know that accidents happen, so if you find that you do end up with a damaged louvre, just give us a call on 020 3239 8405 and a replacement can be ordered, which is simple to replace.
