General Shutter Information

What’s the best way to care for and clean my Shutters?

This is easy! A simple wipe with a damp cloth is all that’s needed to keep your shutters looking as new for years to come. If you have any accidental crayon or pen marks a small amount of soap solution should rub the marks off.

In what rooms can I use shutters?

You can use shutters in any room. We have a full range of styles to suit all room types and can even provide water resistance shutters suitable for bath rooms, kitchens and other damp areas

What shapes do your shutters come in?

Shutters can be custom made in all shapes and sizes. They can be made to fit regular rectangular windows, or cut and shaped to fit a particular feature window such as a circular or curved window.

How big can shutters be made?

Our shutters can be made to any size. If you have a particularly wide window you can choose our wood effect PVC which are stronger to support a broader wide.

What finish can I have on my shutters?

All our shutter ranges have a selection of finishes and colours. If you choose the Chic Premium Premium range you can have matt, satin or gloss, smooth or wood grain finish in any clolour. We can even match your favourite print. Please see our shutter range for details.

What’s the difference between solid shutters and louvre shutters?

The solid wooden shutters are solid with no slats and are a good solution if you want to block out all light, for example in a bedroom. Our louvre shutters have horizontal slats that you can adjust and decide how much light you want to block out.

How can I get privacy without losing daylight?

The slats on our louvre shutters allow you to select an angle that will allow light in but still make if difficult to see in from outside. This is particularly useful if you live on a busy street and want to see out but don’t want others to see in.

When should I choose shutters? When should I use curtains?

To a certain extent this is a matter of taste, as shutters can be installed anywhere you can fit curtains. Due to their versatility shutters will often work better in places that would be difficult to make the aesthetics of curtains work. Shutters are often cheaper and more cost effective due to their insulation properties. See our pricing FAQs above

How do shutters save energy?

By creating a solid ‘wall’ that has an air gap a bit like cavity walls, your house will stay warmer in the winter. This means you can turn the heating down a couple of degrees and still retain the warmth.

How do they open / work?

All shutter doors open on hinges just like a normal internal door, but with the adjustable louvre slats you will probably want to keep them closed and adjust the slats to let light in or out. For taller shutters that reach the floor, you can have them folding on a top track and bottom guide.
